According to the story, Daedalus, A mythical inventor, created wings made of feathers and wax to escape from Crete where he and his son, Icarus were held captive by King Minos. Icarus, however, ignored his father's warnings and flew too close to the sun. His wings melted and he fell into the sea where he met his end. In this painting, Icarus has just flown off canvas into a world of sunlight. The viewer catches him as he breaks through the cloud cover on his way back to Earth. He seems to be suspended in time, a moment of forever-falling. He is now everything, his worst and best moments... a fallen hero and light bringer... a son.
